We continue to hear from many customers that they are interested in moving their Citrix workloads to XenServer from VMware due to recent price increases. XenServer 8 now makes it even easier for you to migrate your Citrix workloads from VMware to XenServer, with the new PVS teleportation capabilities.
This simplifies migrating your PVS master images to XenServer, streamlining the process of migrating your Citrix VDAs from VMware to XenServer.
From within XenCenter, you can use the XenCenter Import wizard to import your master image’s vDisk. PVS stores a shared disk image (vDisk) as a VHDX/AVHDX file.
By importing a VHDX/AVHDX file using the XenCenter Import wizard, you can now more easily migrate your Golden Image’s vDisk from VMware to XenServer.
Check out the recent VMware to XenServer Migration Guide for Citrix workloads published to XenServer Tech Zone for the high-level steps to migrate your PVS provisioned VDAs.
We also recommend enabling PVS Accelerator in XenServer when using PVS provisioned Citrix VDAs. PVS Accelerator caches the master image on XenServer to drastically reduce the load on your network and PVS server.
PVS Accelerator delivers faster VDA boot times, quicker Citrix Machine Catalog updates, and helps you get the most out of your existing infrastructure.
