Do you ever worry about impacting your Citrix users when undertaking operations on your hypervisor? Perhaps you are concerned about shutting down a VM or host that has important user sessions running? Having to jump between multiple consoles to be sure you are doing the right thing can be time consuming and error prone reducing your confidence that you are safe to do what you need to.
Imagine if the XenCenter could make it easier to run those Citrix workloads, giving you more confidence and reducing the chances of disrupting production. Wouldn’t that be great? We are developing a feature that might help you with this. If you want to take a look at this in action you can watch this video or better still, give it a try yourself!
With the latest XenCenter (v 2024.4.0 or later) you could do the following:
- Click on a VM, host or pool and see a whole new Citrix tab that shows Virtual apps and desktops sessions and placement of machines from Catalogs and delivery groups giving instant view of the users active on the VM, and it was provisioned
- View other VMs are in the same catalogues to allow easy assessment of capacity for user sessions to be moved to other VMs within the current pool
In addition if you try to shut down a VM or host that has active Citrix Apps and Desktops sessions on them, you will see warnings to help you avoid accidental shutdowns.
This new tech preview very simple to try it out, just download the latest XenCenter from here and configure Citrix connections from XenCenter to your on-Premises DDCs.
This feature is your chance to help shape the future of integrated workload management. We would love to hear what additional Citrix workload aware features you would like to see in XenCenter, so download and the newest XenCenter and give it a go. Happy testing!
