Here’s something you might not know, XenServer 8 is actually version XenServer 8.4 under the hood, which has been the case ever since its release last year.
We recognise that labelling the release as XenServer 8 may have led to a degree of confusion, with some customers even under the impression that our prior Citrix Hypervisor 8.2 release was in some way newer than XenServer 8. Although incorrect this is understandable, due to the manner in which the underlying version number is currently displayed (8.2 is after all numerically greater than 8).
To help clarify this potential source of confusion, we will shortly be addressing this by clearly labelling and identifying the product, formerly referred to as XenServer 8, as being XenServer 8.4
Changes depicting the new XenServer 8.4 version number will be rolled out over the next few weeks, you can expect to see the version fully displayed within:
- An updated XenCenter
- xenserver.com (including the downloads page)
- hcl.xenserver.com
- Our product documentation
I hasten to add that for anyone already running XenServer 8 there will be zero impact, these are purely cosmetic changes.
